Massimo, Whitehall

For too long London’s hotels either housed haughty white table clothed brasseries, or uninspiring buffets. But recent openings, such as Hoi Polloi in Ace Hotel and The London Edition’s Berners Tavern, not mention Nuno Mendes’ Viajante and Dinner, have helped reinvigorate the hotel-dining scene.

Massimo in the Corinthia Hotel on Northumberland Avenue is another case in point. Its huge dining room is home to eight marble candy stick Corinthian columns, enormous chandeliers, leather and lavish fabrics. It sounds pretentious, but isn’t. Instead, designer David Collins has made the room feel modern and relaxed, like your very own miniature Grand Central Station, without the crazed commuters. Read more…
